a.       $265.00

b.      Received $200 in stipend checks for picnic and a $10 contribution from April’s meeting

6.       County Commissioners

Victor Celentino gave the following report:  ( Dale Copedge is unable to be with us tonight, as he is at a mental health meeting)

a.   Looking at 2010 with 5.5 M $ deficit.

b.       On Law Enforcement Committee. There are false states about what this committee that has not even been in discussion.

c.      It is expected that each department will get a proportional cut, not just one.

d.       Goal is to save as many jobs, and not eliminate any road patrol.

e.       Applied for some Stimulus to grant to pay for some.

f.      Previous Stimulus was granted based on crime statistics. Hence it may appear to be disproportional versus size of coverage.

g.      We are going to make some tough decisions.

h.        There is no proposal to raise any mileage. Originally the Airport request an increase and was successful in to maintain the same.

i.        There is no DONE DEALS about cuts and eliminates. June will begin the discussion about budgets.

j.      Waverly Road Project – Road Commission meets with neighbors and start around June 15 thru Sept. St Joe to Willow.

k.      Tri County Stimulus is scheduling; Willow north to Grand River and Mt. Hope to Jolly Road. Some projects are aligned with the water projects.

                                                                      1.      Waverly will be completely redone by 2011.

                                                                      2.    These will be Re-Milling top two inches and expect to last next ten years.

l.        Feel free to supply suggestions and or questions that should be asked.

m.    Potter Park Zoo has new Wings from Down Under Exhibit – the grand opening will be May 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.

7.      City Council

Councilwoman Carol Wood reports:

a.     Lansing requested from stimulus a walking path from river to jolly along Waverly. The city would be responsible for this PATH as it is not a sidewalk.

b.      Lansing’s Budget passed on Monday.

                                                                          1.    Compromise Ambulance Fees with various schedules. A concern was not to raise the fee above what insurances would charge. Reviewing ambulance fees along with a waiver for persons with hardships.

                                                                          2.     Sycamore Driving Range – 900K from park mileage to develop for 1st Tee Program and Driving Range. Last year it made 10K and this year expenditure is 106K+. Administration has stated to possibly close it if it is not equitable. Concern is that it has not been open long enough to get a return in investment.

                                                                        3.      Waverly was open for a Frisbee Tournament. It is still not open for public use, although there are people entering.

                                                                        4.   LCC Ramp - vote denied.   It was believe the proposal was not economical as a loss of revenue of $1M.

                                                                          5.    Compliance Complaint about house on Bedford, with excessive cars and have destroyed property. This property has been reported repeatedly.

                                                                         6.  There is a LPD parking division that does ticket between 2am to 6am.

                                                                           7.    A house on Hampden appears to be vacant.

9.     New Issues

a.       Corner of Woodview and Wellesley’s stop sign is being ignored.

                                                                          1.     Referred to Sgt. Koenigsknecht and Officer Jason Bock and Traffic Division.

b.      Drag racing has been increasing at Victor and Viking.

10.  Code Compliance

Gregg Scrimger was present and welcomed by all.

a.   Tall grass at Hampden home was not mowed by city, but was mowed by an individual company, paid for by a neighbor.

b.     Home on Bedford is getting written up for tall grass.

c.       2nd house on Bedford with Green Tag.  Has gone into foreclosure.

d.      Home on Belaire (which has been an eye soar for many years) will be discussed by powers that be.

e.       Duplex on Hampden was reported.

f.       Home on Victor that was red tagged, but now has a possible     buyer; which has special assessments.

g.      Home on Woodview received several violations for long grass.

h.      Home on Cooley reported for tall grass.

i.        House on Rossiter with pool that is not kept up.

11.   Lansing Police Department

Officer Jason Bock reported

a.      Drag racing on Victor and Viking, along with loud music.

b.       Crime map shows we had a good month.

c.      One garage door was left open over night and mower was taken. Please keep your garage doors closed, at all times, to avoid having this happen.

12.  Good and Welfare

Arriving after another meeting, Councilwoman A’Lynne Robinson reported

a.      A’Lynne announced her 2nd Saturday meeting on June 13th at Harry Hill.  All are invited.  Time:  10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

b.     She would like a letter of support or non support for corner of MLK and Holmes. A liquor license has been requested for packaged liquor.  City has 15 days to respond.

c.   Business on MLK Blvd are working together and named themselves “Business on the Boulevard” and will be having events during the summer.

d.      Motion approved to author a letter recommending the disapproval of a liquor license for new request at MLK and Holmes.

e.       Pamphlet and flier announcements.

13.  Raffle, compliments of Councilwoman Carol Wood

a.       $50 L&L gift card raffled and the winner:  Jan Fleck, who donated it to the Food Bank.  (Thanks Jan!)
