Lewton-Rich Neighborhood Association
Sept. 16, 2004
1. Welcome
A moment of silence for Gordon Steinhauer, one of our board members who passed away in August.
2.Pledge
3. Police Dept. Report:
Linda Wright and Jason Block reporting.
a. Sgt. Mark Burns died.
b. There were two home invasions: one on Victor (close to the end), young black man opened the patio door and walked in. The other one on Gingersnap-elderly woman who was asleep, and the man went in through an open window. Age wise, maybe late teens. slight build, both occurred between 1 and 2 a.m. (A new neighborhood association at Averill School will address the area of Gingersnap).
Jason is our area policeman for area 10, and we can request to do a ride-along.
Chuck brought up the neighbor who had a ticket for having his dog in his yard The law is that your dog must be leashed at all times unless you have an invisible fence. It must be leashed and licensed at all times.
Lewton Parking lot: Parents do not use the parking lot--they line up on both sides of Lewton. Jason will see what he can do. Neil will contact the school district. Joe McDonald, Virg Benero's aid, will talk to Mrs. Benero, the principal.
Concerns were raised about the house at 2511 Bedford, the Party House. One man owns it, and rents out rooms. This question has been addressed to Greg Scrimger, the compliance officer. The large truck has been moved. If there is loud noise, the person must be seen and heard by Jason. An idea of finding out the time when the party is going on, and letting the team officer know was raised.
2608 Bedford: Greg has been working on that. Randy said that city council is looking at the issue of rentals--looking at how Ease Lansing is doing rentals, and looking at a moratorium on rentals.
Code compliance--Greg's phone number is 483-7620. Greg has been working really hard for us and looking into our concerns.
3. Introductions: 23 people present, including children.
4. Minutes: They were accepted and approved
5. Treasurer's report: June 14 opened checking account $255.11.
6. Neighborhood's -N-Bloom: The planting went well. Many flowers were planted at D. Rich. A teacher used the Hope scholars and 21st century grant students to help.
8. City council: Randy reported two issues: budget--lot of revenue reductions that he felt were not realistic and council will take up some issues on budget, pretty serious, 2.3 million. There ma be some cuts. Other issues-transportation folks had a meeting in Colonial Village. This was an impromptu meeting to discuss bike issue. Options presented were to leave it, take up the bike lanes, put in left turn lane. The general consensus is to put it back the way it was.
